You might assume critical thinking comes naturally to most people, but you’d be wrong. There’s an art to it.
Helen Lee Bouygues, found of the Reboot Foundation, has helped a lot of companies through dicey transitions. In her experience, when things go sideways for a company, it’s almost always because a lack of critical thinking was deployed.
Bouygues spoke with Curt Nickisch at HBR about her work with a panoply of organizations and how “Critical thinking is not only extremely important for success in life, but it’s also something that needs to be learned and practiced.”
One of the best ways to infuse a little more critical thinking into your life is to learn to take a break before you make a decision. For instance, go for a run or take a walk around the block.
Taking the time to stop and think is a great practice for developing a more attuned style of critical thinking.
